Hello Beautiful Humans!
It's a question that has perhaps been pondered since pondering began. What is YOUR purpose? Can you answer this question honestly? Is it even an answerable question? Let's find out, shall we?
To get started, let's break this down to it's most basic definitions.
According to Oxford:
noun 1. the reason for which something is done or created or for which something
exists. "the purpose of the meeting is to appoint a trustee"
verb (FORMAL) 2. have as one's intention or objective. "His purpose is to make people laugh."
Let's start with #1
Let's put the "Your purpose" on the side line for a moment and think about a honey bee. What is a bee's purpose? Some might say it is to pollinate, but is it? What if a bee's only real purpose is help support and protect its hive? What if it is only to procreate? What if it's only real purpose is to make honey to feed bears so that humans would have a topic for cartoons? Ok, the last one might have been stretching it a bit.
Take it a step farther... Let's say that a bee's only purpose IS to pollinate. For what? So that humans and animals can have fruits and vegetables to eat? Is that really the bee's purpose or the purpose of the fruits and vegetables?
The truth is that if we did not create the bee, then we will never really know what its true purpose is and likewise, the bee most likely will never know either. The same applies to us.
On to #2
The actual focus of this blog is the second definition. What is the intention or objective that you have for your life? What is that one thing that will make your life matter? The one thing that will allow you to go to your grave satisfied. What is your purpose? Understand that we are not talking about your life goal or anything on your bucket list. I have plenty of things that I want to do, but I do not consider this my purpose.
Your purpose is what motivates you. It is what influences your behavior and creates meaning for you. It's your passion and what helps you to make an impact on the world. It is what drives you and energizes you.
How Do You Find Your Life Purpose?
For some it is easy to identify. It's the reason they get up every morning. For others it is more difficult. In order to find it, it may require a lot of reflection. In either case, a person needs to be not only honest with themselves, but it requires a great deal of self awareness.
It means stopping to consider your talents, skills, and natural abilities. All the different ways that you can help yourself and/or others to become the best version of yourself. Maybe its a career that reduces environmental impacts. Maybe it's helping the less fortunate. Maybe it is simply finding the peace and joy that comes with living your best life.
Do some reflecting on your own purpose. What is it? What does it mean to you?
